Liesbeth, Sara and Steffen attended the first Annual National Haematological PhD course: “From Scientific Idea to New Targeted Therapy – how to commercialize science”, organized by the University of Southern Denmark. This 2-day course took place in March at the Hindsgavl Slot in Middelfart. Commercialization of scientific projects was under discussion, and the development of a new monoclonal antibody with anti-neoplastic properties was presented, spanning the process from the identification of a cellular target through clinical evaluation to the final European Medicines Agency registration. All students were asked to discuss the commercial potential of their project.
Sara presented the poster “Functional analysis of microRNA-dependent chemosensitivity in B-cell cancers by lentiviral transduction in human cancer B-cell lines”,Steffen presented the poster “Generation of a cell line derived gene signature predictor of response to Doxorubicin in Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma” and Liesbeth’s poster title was “Combination of the IGF-1 receptor inhibitor picropodophyllin (PPP) and the BH3 mimetic ABT-737 has synergistic anti-myeloma activity”, for which she received the best poster presentation award.
23 January 2013
Maria RD, Anders, Steffen and Martin attended a conference at VU University, Amsterdam, on 24-25 January 2013, SMPDG (statistical methods for (post)-Genomics Data, see www.smpgd2013.nl.
Anders gave an oral presentation with the title “Reproducibility of high-throughput experimental results”.
Maria, Steffen and Martin presented posters with the titles “Reproducible probe-level analysis of Affymetrix’s exon array with R/Bioconductor”, “Generation of a Cell Line Derived Gene Signature Predictor of Response to Doxorubicin in Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma” and “A model system for assessing and comparing the ability of exon microarray and tag sequencing to detect genes specific for malignant B-cells”, respectively.
1 March 2013
At the 28th Annual General Meeting of the Belgian Hematological Society (Ghent, 24 to 26 January 2013), Liesbeth Bieghs received an award for her poster presentation titled “The IGF-1 receptor inhibitor picropodophyllin (PPP) potentiates the anti-myeloma effects of the BH3 mimetic ABT-737 “.
Liesbeth Bieghs is a Joint PhD student at our department and at the Hematology department of the VUB in Belgium.
23 January 2013
Sara Marques attended a PhD course at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, entitled Introduction to Pharmacogenomics – clinical applications.
This course introduced the students to the basic concepts of the field that aims at finding the right therapeutic approach for each patient according to their genetic profile.
Current clinical applications and projects that are expected to lead to future recommendations are presented, from cancer and neurodegenerative diseases to heart and mental health disorders, among others.
Students were actively involved in the course through paper discussions.
